Yep, Donnamo is under the weather. I have a sniffly, stuffy, sneezy head cold. The first one in a long time. Growing up I was ever so prone to colds despite constant warnings to "wrap up" etc... In our home the go to treatments were two atomizers.
THESE TWO BABIES ARE CLOSE TO WHAT WE HAD. THE CLEAR ON HAD NASAL SPRAY AND THE BROWN BOTTLE WAS THROAT SPRAY.
At any rate, my treatment is to dose up on Musinex, nose spray, and Zyrtex and stay in bed and read. I read this lovely book, The Last Runaway by Tracy Chevalier yesterday. It was great; has some quilting references but a genuine historical novel....not Jennifer Chaiverini quilt novel. Tracy is from Washington, DC; my parent's best friends and our neighbors were Chevalier. Ever since I discovered Tracy I have been wanting to see if there is a connection. So far, no luck.
Hubs is out of town on a golf outing, but if there are any burglar/rapists reading this, let me assure you I am locked and loaded so don't bother to come to my house.
Right after Christmas, I discovered Call the Midwife on PBS but alas, it was the last episode of Season 1. So I emailed my friendly, knowledgeable librarian and asked her to find the DVD for me. Last night I watched disc 1 today disc 2 is on tap. It is about public health nurses in London after the war. These poor women were having babies one right after another. I guess birth control hadn't come to the UK or they were Catholic and didn't practice it.
My last form of entertainment is learning or rather trying to learn to crochet Granny Squares. On the blog, Attic 24, the blogger is a crocheter in England. She does the sweetest, most beautiful color "hooky" things. If you know anything about crochet....mine do not resemble hers in anyway. I have watched three videos on the Internet and keep the book in my lap but so far no success. I'll post pics if I ever get them right.
Well, back to bed with a bowl of oatmeal and another Tracy Chevalier book, Burning Bright.

I hate that you are sick, but I love that your prescription involves bed rest and reading good books! I would like a prescription like that, that also included a maid, a cook, a chauffeur, and someone to take over all my other duties!
I have enjoyed a few Tracy Chevalier books--Girl With the Pearl Earring, Something ? about a unicorn, and Something ? about childhood friendships and women's suffrage in Edwardian England.
Now, I am not worried for your safety because I know you are "locked and loaded", but I am concerned that you are alone without a someone to wait on you hand and foot. Will email you.
Is the dvd about the midwives documentary or fiction?
Okay, I am responding girlie. The Midwives is fiction based on reality. There are a lot of babies born in the series tastefully in my opinion.
Hubs got home earlier than expected and made my favorite, potato soup which picked me up considerably. He also went to Walmart to get me more meds....my favorite, Drixoral is no longer available because some people were using it to make meth.
I have an all day workshop in Chesterfield today....they will probably put me in isolation if I start sneezing and blowing my nose a lot.
Okay, Caroline, I looked up the DVD and it's title is Call the Midwife....it gives a summary of the series.
Ive been reading Attic 24 for about a year now. I get quite irked when she stops posting for a while like when she had Little Man a few years ago. She should have written tutorials from the delivery room you know? Ive made several of her projects. I've started reading a blog from someone who quilts and crochets and thought about making a small quilt for about five minutes. She bought the squares in something called a charm pack. I never knew such things existed. I'm signed up to get email alerts when you post so I read those.
I'm sorry you are under the weather but aren't having to take the green/ clear bottle or worse the other bottle. Wow. I hope you feel better soon.
Hang in there with the crochet. Like anything, it gets easier with practice. Try Lucy's join as you go method. You make the square and the finished product at the same time. It's brilliant.

Hahaha. I laughed out loud when you made reference to your dad's belief in enemas. I remember that so well!!! He prescribed one for me as part of my treatment for a concussion. Personally, I think he was still trying to repay me for making him chase me around the operating room when I got my tonsils out!!!

Funny you mention granny squares. My grandmother, Marion, and great grandmother, Katie, loved to knit granny squares. I have two or three granny afghans from my grandmother and a couple of squares from my great grandmother. I want to crochet some for my kids. I enjoy making granny squares. They are easy and versatile.
